SIFA Prize-Winner Announcement

Lex Academic SIFA/Argumenta 2023 Prize

We are very pleased to announce that the winner of the 2023 Lex Academic Prize in the philosophy of action and ethics in the analytic tradition is Dr Federica Berdini (Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Ethics, University of Toronto) for her article, “Coping: A Philosophical Exploration”. This €500 prize is awarded in association with the Italian Society of Analytic Philosophy (SIFA) and the open access journal Argumenta.

Dr Berdini’s article articulates how a philosophical exploration of coping can contribute to the contemporary discussion of agency. Berdini accordingly proposes a systematic philosophical characterization of coping that goes beyond the concerns of psychological theory to enrich reflection upon human action and related normative issues.

‘Coping: A Philosophical Exploration’ shall appear in the next issue of Argumenta (forthcoming May 2023). In addition, Dr Berdini will be formally presented with a winner’s certificate at the 15th SIFA Conference, Who is Afraid of Philosophy? New Challenges for Contemporary Society, in Alessandria, 7-9 September 2023.

We would also like to commend the two runners-up for the prize, whose papers shall also be published in Argumenta:

All remaining applicants for this year’s prize are invited to re-submit their manuscript to Argumenta via the standard procedure and will undergo the usual peer-review process.

Application details for the 2024 prize shall be announced in March.
