Accomodation
Alghero is a popular destination and finding accommodation is not always easy. We recommend that you arrange your stay as soon as possible using Airbnb, Booking or similar websites.
For those who wish to do so, we have an agreement with the Hotel La Margherita, 8-10 minute walk from the conference venue.
Special rates for conference participants are:
- € 55.00 the double room for single use, breakfast included
- € 70.00 the double room;
- € 85.00 the triple room;
When you make your reservation, simply mention that you are a participant in the conference organized at the “Dipartimento di Architettura” (this is the magic word, there is no point in using the acronym SIFA!).
Our suggestion is to hurry even if you opt for this arrangement!
General information for travelling to Alghero
The Alghero/Fertilia airport is the closest (just 10 km far from the city centre) and by far the most comfortable destination for travelling to Alghero. The airport is connected by public transport buses to the Alghero centre with a travel time of about 20 minutes. Timetables are available at this link and an automatic ticket machine is in the terminal hall (ticket price: 1.30 euros).
It is possible to hire a taxi to reach the city (the price is around 20.00/25.00 euros and the travel time around 10/12 minutes). It is also possible to rent a car at the airport. The rental companies are located just outside the Arrivals hall. Their car parks are near the Terminal. Additional information can be found here.
The other airports in the island are Olbia and Cagliari (140 Km and 230 Km far from Alghero respectively).
If you fly to Olbia, you need to take a train or a bus to Sassari and then another train or a bus to Alghero.
- by train: you can reach the Olbia train station by taking the buses number 2 or 10 from the airport (timetable and ticket information here. The bus stop is located outside the airport, just 50 meters away from the arrivals. Information on trains to Sassari (travel time of about 2 hours) can be found at this link. Once in Sassari you can take a train to Alghero (travel time of about 35 minutes; timetable at this link;
- by bus: there is a seasonal bus service that connects Olbia airport with Alghero (travel time: about 1 hour and a half), more information can be found at this link.
If you fly to Cagliari the best option is to take a train to Sassari directly from the Elmas airport railway station (travel time: around 3 hours). The airport train station is just a 5 minutes’ walk from the air terminal. For information on timetables, fares and further details, please contact Trenitalia at the Italian toll number 89 20 21 or visit Trenitalia website. Once in Sassari you can follow the previous instructions to take a train to Alghero.
There is also the possibility to come to Sardinia by boat, but it is advisable only if you arrive with your own car. The best option is to arrive in Porto Torres, which is just 40 Km far from Alghero. Two shipping companies dock in Porto Torres: Tirrenia and Grimaldi.
The other Sardinian ports are Olbia, Golfo Aranci or Cagliari.
